New Global Consortium Aims to Transform Antibiotic Discovery to Counter the Growing AMR Crisis

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, alongside the Novo Nordisk Foundation and Wellcome, announced $60 million in new global grant funding over three years to accelerate antibiotic discovery against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a first-of-its-kind consortium, the Gram-Negative Antibiotic Discovery Innovator (Gr-ADI), which will support 18 research projects in 17 countries focused on developing new antibiotics for Gram-negative bacteria, with open data sharing and collaboration designed to overcome current scientific and market barriers and address the urgent global health threat of AMR.
